Two Gets First Win; Oilers in Thriller!!!

Phoenix has shaken off their winless situation. Du-Runners has also been able to secure a win finally while Oilers continue to roll, beating Harbel Pointers in a thriller.

Phoenix came into the action with a loosing streak of three games. It was necessary that they secure a victory against newly established Hoops Angels. Now the winless torch has been passed onto Hoops Angels.

The VPO of the LBA during the half time, expressed his dissatisfaction on the level of play in the female division. “I have seen girls playing. These girls are far from what I have seen,” he lamented. “We need to do more to develop females in the game. We see their desire. They do not get paid to play. They are playing out of passion. We as leaders, need to develop more facility for these children to learn the game and play to their potential,” He concluded

The match everyone been waiting for for the day finally came. The capacity of the open air Sports Commission was packed to no capacity. With over 500 in attendance, we expected a highly charge atmosphere and we were not let down!

From the teams entry to their warm-up was like festivity. Every layup and dunks were greeted with cheers or jeers during their warm-up.

Oilers started the quarter with the duo of S. Kpannie and E. Bestman making all of their 22pts of the quarter. S. Kpannie had 12pts and went 2-2 from threes while MVP Candidate E. Bestman had 11pts going 3-3 from behind the arch.

That didn’t dampened the spirit of the Harbel boys as J. Reed also had some dash and slash in the Oilers defense drawing early fouls on their bigs.

But it wasn’t a great night for J. Reed. He got two technical fouls which lead to injection from the game. His team mate, T. Kaba also was injected because he ran into crowd to fight a fan.

With both of them off the game, Pointers were still able to put up a fight. Even been down by one possession. But in the final minutes of the game, they got easily broken down by Oilers who took the much needed W. But that didnt come easy. Kudos to the Oil Boys!!!
