Samson Slawion is a veteran. A household name in some parts of the country. Samson Slawion has a tall list of basketball accolades to his name. The big man who began his career about twenty years ago, still stands tall in today’s modern basketball. From his performance last night leaves no doubt his action is a call to many big men out there to forget about retirement.
“I won my first basketball season with Flipstars unbeaten,” Samson proudly said. “I went on to play for all the big teams in Liberia. You name it. Barrolle, Oilers, Uhuru Kings, just about all of them”
When word first got to us that Samson will be suiting this season, we tried to reach out. On our first meeting he only speculated about his return. “Pekin,” he started, “I have seen it all. I don’t know if I really want to return, but we will see.”
Well, we have now seen and history is still been written in this hall of famer books. His presence yesterday gave Monrovia Pistons their first win in two seasons. Last season Monrovia Pistons went winless. Same thing started this year until the veteran arrived giving them that experience.
Before the game he was asked, how would he manage regarding his stamina. “My man,” he answered, “I don’t have that right now. So when I’m tire I will call timeout on myself. If they don’t want to set me down, they know me. I will walk out. I’m not coming to faint here.” Everyone of his teammates seated around him laughed.
Samson made the starting five as was expected. His presence showed just what was lacking in the Pistons. Leadership. You could see how he coordinate the defense and offense. Speaking always and encouraging his teammates. His hustle spirit seemed to have fuel the fire in most of his boys as Pistons began on a high note, attacking their opponent and playing stiff defense in the Pistons half.
“Da Monrovia Piston playing full court press here so?” A fan at the game was heard saying.
Samson was more a facilitator in his season debut. Although he had two points shooting 1-1 Samson Slawion padded the other stats as well. The bigman veteran had 7rbds three of which were offensive rebounds. He also dish three dimes but noticeably was his rim protection. An astounding five blocks which we are verifying as a season high in a a game! All in 28mins!
Congrats on your win, bigman! We will continue to follow your story throughout the season.
