The Open-Air Sports Commission was overly packed last evening with basketball supporters who had trooped in their numbers to witness the long awaited showpiece between the two undefeated teams, than, in the ongoing LBA League.

Mighty Barrolle

The turnout on the night was enough to announce the return of basketball days where fans could not hesitate to sit on the floor to watch their team play.
The Sports Arena experienced its highest turnout over decades, as there were absolutely no space to even stand to watch the match.

The showpiece was regraded a Battle for Supremacy, as the two teams had recorded the most wins in the league without recording a single defeat, prior to the Wednesday night encounter.
It was the Shipping-boys who showed supremacy as they deservingly defeated bitter rival Mighty Barrolle 66-57 following a tense, tactical and classical basketball display.

Both teams hard to work over time, but Barrolle failure to cut off Pythons’ three pointer, placed a serious doubt over Barrolle’s ambition to steal a win on the night.

Pythons’ Yakubu of Nigeria was unstoppable on the night as the Foreigner scored all his three shots in the first quarter thus condemning his opponents to a wide scoreline margin.
Though Barrolle managed to cut the score to a considerable margin, and at some point, took a slim lead, the Shipping-boys tactical showpiece was more calculative and direct, something that gave them edge over their opponents.

Sadly for Barrolle, they had run around for several seconds before realizing their first three points, as Richard Dolley points ration on the night was dismal and unimaginable of his quality.
With a hooping US$5.00 charge per ticket, the record turnout was unbelievable.

The match brought together thousands of basketball fans, supporters and former players (old-timers) as well as Government officials to include Deputy House Speaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, Rep. Solomon George, Rep. Dixon Seboe, Rep. Francis Dopoe, Transport Minister Samuel Wlue, NPA Managing Director, Bill Trahway and Minister D. Zeogar Wilson of Youth and Sports, amongst others.

Prior to the match, the NPA boss announced a mouthwatering US$2,000 win bonus for Pythons, something that may have also triggered the hunger in the shipping-boys to produced such an exceptional display against Mighty Barrolle.

Barrolle on the other hand, had to look for the presence of their executives with only D. Zeogar Wilson, a staunch rollers, seen on the VIP line.

But the scene was as actually dramatic, as the LBA could not control the influx people in the gym.
The results mean Pythons remain the only undefeated the in the ongoing LBA’s League.
Statistical details to come later.
