Monrovia Rockets were on a two games winning streak. Barnesvill Dragons on the other hand had lost all of their previous three games. To remain in contention for the 2nd round it was a must win for B. Dragons. Monrovia Rockets needed to win just as much to solidify their fifth placed position.
Only six teams can make it to the second round.
B. Dragons showed up with just six players on their roster. For some reasons unknown to us this was their shortest rotation since the start of the season. Their opponents had their full squad, lead by Philip Taylor and Josh Garnett (cap). It was a bad game for them as both scored single digit points.
In the 1st Quarter, A. Fahnbulleh for Monrovia Rockets scored 7pts on his way to securing 11pts. A Koon for B. Dragons kept it close in that quarter as well. He had 7pts, and lead all scorers with 15pts at close of game.
Although the Rockets Boys led the whole way into the fourth quarter, they went flat. Despite B. Dragons playing with just six men roster and two of their key players each having four individual fouls, couple with B.Dragons flag up at seven minutes to go, Monrovia Rockets players screw their chances.
During a time out, Coach Winston of Monrovia Rockets told his players, “we need to get aggressive guys. No more three balls. We need to take the ball to them and live on the foul line.”
Apparently that didn’t sink in to the players as they returned to the floor and shot a lot of contested shots.
As fatigue settled in on both teams it was still B.Dragons who were able to run couple of fast breaks taking the game beyond reach for Monrovia Rockets.
With the lost, they still sits at the 5th position with two tough games ahead. Unbeaten Raiders and Visioneers who lost their last game.
Coach Winston when asked said, “I am sure that we can make the 2nd round. We have outstanding games we can win.”
Are you in agreement with the coach?
